Our Trades
Trade groups at the heart of FIF
FIF's trade groups are the heart of the federation. They foster dialogue between industrialists, share best practices and challenges, and build collective positioning on institutional topics.

Infrastructure
Design, build and maintain the network
The Infrastructure group brings together track industrialists — rails, sleepers, switches and crossings, catenary systems. This 26-company group designs, builds and maintains the physical foundations of the network, along with inspection and works equipment, work-site safety and the renewal of tracks.

Signalling
Ensuring traffic safety and fluidity
Signalling group companies design and supply signalling and control-command systems that guarantee safe train operations. These systems work for the interoperability of trains across Europe and the improvement of safety and performance of railway networks.

Equipment Manufacturers
Designing essential components
The FIF Equipment Manufacturers Group includes French and international companies designing and manufacturing the vital components of rolling stock — braking, traction, energy and electronics, bogies and couplers, HVAC, doors, seats and passenger information systems. They ensure the performance and comfort of trains.

Rolling Stock Manufacturers
Designing and assembling rail vehicles
Rolling stock manufacturers design and assemble trains, metros, trams and other rail vehicles. From design to commissioning, these companies master the integration of complex technologies to deliver high-performance transport solutions.

Maintenance
Retrofit, modernisation and circular economy
The Maintenance and retrofit group brings together MRO industrialists, heavy refurbishment specialists and modernisation of existing fleets to extend rolling stock service life. Building on retrofit practices and innovative technologies, it strengthens the performance and durability of the existing railway fleet — a circular-economy approach favouring repair, reuse and modernisation over systematic replacement.

Digital Technologies
Railway digitalisation, AI and cybersecurity
The Digital Technologies group brings together players of railway digitalisation — AI, digital twins, cybersecurity, predictive maintenance, data sharing and system automation. These technologies are essential to address the sector challenges: traffic growth, safety demand and environmental impact reduction.
