Mobility for all in rural areas (light trains)
Alstom develops innovative light train solutions to serve rural and peri-urban areas currently without rail transport. Only 9% of the French population currently benefits from this local rail mobility. These light trains, less expensive to produce and operate than conventional rolling stock, make it possible to reopen closed lines and create new connections where the need for sustainable mobility is greatest.
Impact
Seulement 9% de la population beneficie de cette mobilite
Environment Express Accelerator - e2
SNCF's Environment Express Accelerator (e2) program is an ambitious decarbonization initiative launched in 2024. It aims to accelerate the reduction of direct emissions across the entire SNCF group through concrete actions at production sites, maintenance workshops, and daily operations.
Impact
Programme de decarbonation 2024
Hydrogen-powered train
Alstom has developed the world's first hydrogen-powered train with the Coradia iLint. This breakthrough technology enables the replacement of diesel trains on the 40% of the French rail network that is not electrified.
Impact
40% du reseau ferre francais n'est pas electrifie
Ballast recycling
SNCF Reseau has implemented an ambitious program for recycling used ballast. Instead of extracting and transporting new quarry stones, ballast removed during maintenance is cleaned, calibrated and relaid on the track.
Impact
Objectif 2025 : retraiter 25% du ballast depose
Rail reuse
SNCF Reseau is developing a strategy for reusing rails removed during track renewal. Rails that can no longer serve on high-speed or heavy traffic lines are reused on secondary or lower traffic lines.
Impact
7% de rail reemploye vise
Road-to-rail modal shift
Alstom actively contributes to the modal shift from road to rail transport, particularly for freight. By developing more efficient and competitive rail freight solutions, the company helps remove thousands of trucks from the roads each year.
Impact
3600 camions de moins sur les routes chaque annee
Direct emissions reduction
Siemens Mobility is committed to an ambitious transition to renewable energy to power all its production sites and offices.
Impact
Transition vers energies renouvelables
Building energy efficiency
SNCF has launched a large-scale thermal renovation program for its stations and technical buildings.
Impact
Renovation thermique des gares
Rolling stock eco-design
Alstom integrates eco-design principles from the design phase of its new rolling stock. The goal is to achieve 95% recyclability of equipment at end of life.
Impact
Recyclabilite 95% du materiel
Sustainable ballast management
Colas Rail implements innovative sustainable ballast management techniques, fully aligned with the circular economy.
Impact
Economie circulaire des materiaux
Low-energy signalling
Hitachi Rail develops low-energy railway signalling systems. By replacing old incandescent bulbs with LEDs and deploying intelligent control systems, the company significantly reduces the electrical consumption of signalling equipment.
Impact
LED et systemes intelligents
Green predictive maintenance
Knorr Bremse deploys predictive maintenance solutions based on AI and IoT to optimize maintenance interventions on railway braking systems.
Impact
Reduction des interventions inutiles
